live foods
So i'm looking on livefood.co.uk and i see that there are black and brown crickets and locust - all of different sizes.
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between brown, black crickets and locust? Which one is better for APH?
And also what size to get?
Thanks

Re: live foods
black crickets are more aggressive and noisy but slower moving
brown crickets are mean to be silent but arent when adults but very fast and jumpy
size wise anything pinhead is microscopic
locusts are just locusts I wouldnt get anything bigger than medium sized or 4th instar really - does that help?

Re: live foods
i usually get 3rd or 4th size hopper/locusts for ody. The 4th always seem quite big to me, but I think Ody would munch them if they were the same size as him. He's not a leg hog though, legs often seem to be spat out, but he'll munch the rest.

Re: live foods
Never tried the canned, Ody loves his live ones too much. I also bizarrely feel more comfortable with the hoppers than the mealworms too. Hoppers seem to go a treat....i'm guessing they're the same as grasshoppers, but I'm not sure as I was told they were locust related originally. I just know Ody loves them.

Re: live foods
Ah, maybe mine were not grasshoppers then. They didn't smell and were a lovely green and yellow colour. They all look the same to me to be honest....am I being insectist by saying that?

Re: live foods
When I got Sugar the breeder gave me a tin of Mealworms in Brine, similar to the Can of worms. She loved eating them.
They are a bit on the expensive side.
