Quills will grow back
they loss them during quilling at 6weeks to 12 weeks
as long as there are no bald patches or white things that move on him then should be ok
you could always treat for mites at 6 months old
if he is younger the quill loss could be because of quilling
if he is over a year then a hedgehog will start to renew all quills between a year and 18months but will not drop them all at once but over a period of time so you will always find a few
another reason for quill loss is if the hedgehog had a bad diet before and then suddenly gets presented with a good diet
As you see lots of reasons for quill loss
if it is because of ringworm or mites then it is treatable

Same thing is happenening to my little girl. She is a year old and is losing 3-5 quills a night. I cannot see any bald patches just a lot of dry skin. So I have treated her as a precaution for mites and have been adding flaxseed oil to her skin and food.

She had been like this for over a month so just waiting for the day it finally stops!

xeno has ivermectin as its active ingrediant so as loong as the dosages are right it would be paramount to being the same thing - ivermectin in injectionable form and in overdose have been related to hog deaths in the US

If your going to use Ivermectin my vet recommended this

http://www.pharmaqwebshop.co.uk/products_detail.asp?SubCatID=9&Cat=2&productID=5

The information leaflet is VERY easy to follow etc

Yep moving can cause stress which in turn can cause various health problems including quill loss. What are the end of the quills like do they have a ball at the end of them? If they do its an indication that's it's prob not mites . (not sure if that applies to burrowing mites? ANYONE?) But I guess it's best to be over cautious
