Mealworm question.

I just bought live mealworms for the first time (EWW).
So i gave them apple. But, the substrate/oats (if thats what it is?) that they are in looks like flakes, do i take that out or leave it in?? If that is the food they eat them i would prefer them to be munching the apple alone, i dont want to feed munchie worms all the time that have been fed flakes.
PS. Gave munchie 2, he gobbled em and looked at me as if waiting for another...

It's Bug Grub..
Tis their food.
I always leave it in.. they hide in it and stuff..
I guess you could take it out if your bulking them with something else. :]

I wouldnt know what to bulk them with? Do they lay eggs in it? I hope not....thats probably a stupid question but i spilt some of that 'bug grub' out the bag and im hoping theres no eggs gunna hatch on the floor...(my rooms a mess, cba cleaning today too much else to do)

Bulk them with fruit, potato, banana peels, carrot slices or apple.

Well ive just stuffed the tub with apple for now...lol Not much room for anything else in there atm!!
So deffo wont be any hatching eggs on the floor??....Paranoid....if there is the slightest chance i will go mop with disinfectant...i have bug spray and everything just in case...lol
These mealworms are quite big :O

no they don't have eggs
the meal worms turn into aliens first then bettles before they can lay eggs
I find that apple and carrots create too damp an environment for mealies
I give them dry food like wheetabix, ryvita, oats

Another question! See if you dont use them all by time they turn into beetles, do the hogs like munching them in beetle form? Is it good for them or...?

How long it take the to turn into beetles? Mealworms i got were quite big i think due to the snow/delivery delays etc

Who thought picking bugs out one tub and putting them imto another oculd be so time consuming....
