DIY Cage Liners?

Post  pinktink on December 14th 2010, 9:12 am

I am thinking of making a cage liner for my little hedgie. I have bought a fleece blanket which I will cut to size. I'm thinking two sheets as the core of the liner? The thing is, my hedgehog seems to have a phobia of fleece :/ I was thinking of maybe using a pillow case as the top layer or a quilt cover cut to size, would this be suitable? Also, would it be ok to have a thin layer of newspaper underneath the liner, just to soak up an liquid that manages to seep through the liner?

Advice would be appreciated as I'm new to the world of hedgehogs and have a lot to learn! Smile

If you have a litter tray you can "litter train" you hog. My hog only pees and poops in his tray now so i dont have to change his fleece that often!!

Cant tell you how to make a liner, i think you would have to ask hedgebottom on here she makes custom ones. I just line my zoozone with the whole fleece tucked outside the edges of my zoozone, otherwise my hog would go under the fleece all the time instead of in his house where his heatmat is... lau

sounds cool to me, although it would prob be cheaper to get frabric than duvet covers (unless you have them hanging around) I dont use any newspaper underneath cos I find it doesnt really go through the liners as my hoggies do most of their wotsits on their wheel anyway :p

If you own a sewing machine, measuring tape/long ruler, tailors chalk and a decent pair of scissors it will be quite easy to make some liners up.

I have made mine fleece on one side, cotton on the other and also added an inner lining for extra padding.

The only fiddly part is ensuring it is the correct length and width for the viv.

If you need a hand just send me a pm.
