How long do silent spinners last

Post  Millza86 on January 21st 2011, 8:23 am

My hog has broken her current wheel. I had a basic all plastic wheel on a metal stand, it was cheap and around 10" in width. The reason its broken is because she is too heavy for the platic and it has snapped off at the back from her sheer weight, lol big smile
Just wondered how sturdy are these silent spinners and how long on average do they last, eg/ im not going to buy it and then it breaks six months later as they are expensive. Are they very tall, as the 10" wheel I had before fitted the cage perfectly and I dont watn to buy it if it wont fit

Any help greatly appreciated big smile

Silent spinners are 12" plus an inch (roughly) off the ground. I have had it for a week so cannot really say how long they last, but I dropped it today onto a hard kitchen floor and only a small hairline crack appeared so they seem pretty sturdy! I think they could hold a pretty heavy hog with no issue.

Silent spinners are fine so are Savics big smile

A 10inch wheel is too small for an APH it needs to be 12in minimum

With a Silent Spinner you will need to do some DIY in prder for it top fit the Zoo Zone, the link is in Environmental Enrichment

Savic dont need and DIY doing to them big smile

My boy Panda is a pretty enthusiastic athlete and goes on his wheel around 4-5hours solid per night (not exaggerating, I have footage to prove lol!) and his wheel has been with him for around 10months/11months and it just broke last Friday. This was a silent spinner - so almost a year for a wheel obsessed hoggie I wouldn't say isn't too bad unsure
They are sturdy and very quiet I have found, here is the link to fitting in a SS: http://www.pygmyhogsuk.com/t2416-fitting-a-silent-spinner-into-a-zoozone?highlight=silent+spinner

I have also had a P@H Savic so can compare and they too are very sturdy but I found them to be a little more noisey.
12" as everyone has said is the size you would need.

I bought Sydney's wheel over 1 year ago and its still like new. He really loves it and runs a lot every night so I think it was a good investment.
