Toy sizes
Just wanted to check (before my amazon wishlist gets too full) the sizes of toys for hogs. I've gone for a range from guinea pig, ferret, rabbit, cat and small dog toys (kongs).
For example, would this be suitable:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Large-Wooden-Corner-House-Guinea/dp/B00178PJ2I/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I2R7UNPUS56CYM&colid=PYD6J0XS4HZQ (Guinea pig sized)?
(my list so far: http://www.amazon.co.uk/wishlist/PYD6J0XS4HZQ - by no means complete, since it is mostly snacky treaty toy type things, rather than heat mats/food which I've seen people link elsewhere)

Re: Toy sizes
Wow what an impressive list!
My hedgies both have one of these - http://www.amazon.co.uk/small-spikey-cat-ball-toys/dp/B002EJAB9U/ref=wl_it_dp_v?ie=UTF8&coliid=I2D89A3BMB93I2&colid=PYD6J0XS4HZQ and they both love them
I couldnt find a pink one though and it looks like they have pinky ones in this pic
I would buy some but dont really want 10 lol although £1.99 is good for 10 as I paid 40p each for mine.
With regards to the kong they do actually do them for small animals - http://www.petsathome.com/shop/small-animal-kong-toy-40622 - It even has a hedgie on the packet
That house looks fine to me, the ramps could be a bit steep depending on how much of a good climber your hedgie is but Oscar had a house a similar height and could get on and off of it without a ramp so I dont think that will be a problem.
Nice to see you're really doing your research!

Re: Toy sizes
Aha! Small animal kong, excellent! I tried looking at the Kong website, but it was only about dogs and cats.
And yes, plan to spoil the little thing rotten. If it has to be in a cage for ~12 hours a day (and the rest of the time with the cage and play pen access as desired), then I'm going to be hunting down toys to keep it smiling
Also like the idea of changing things around a little, keeping toys and such fresh. I have a P@H igloo on my list for sleeping in, and want to try both finacard and fleecey liners...test everything that has been recommended, rotate to suit!
I was a little worried about those spikey hedgehog cat balls (had many pet rodents with chewing tendancies), but they are definitely added to the list now. Reason for having 10 per hog, is that then it could have a few to nose with, as well as a couple in the wash, and a few I could scent, or meat-smear for a change of pace. They sort of lend themselves to being meat-smeared really, all those nooks to get a hoglet's nose into!
I was thinking of the house, because a few vivs I've seen photos of here have similar items to keep the food and water up, away from the substrate. It was the closest thing I have found so far to the photos. I'll keep looking, see if I can find one with less steep ramps.
If the toys look about the right size, then I'll keep adding more bits and bobs. Think my budget is roughly about £30 for toys (not including wheel, play pen, insects, or needful things such as cage, heat, food and bedding).

Wow what a great idea to smear meat on to the spiky balls! Can tell you work in a zoo lol. Guess what i'm doing tonight?
You're hedgie is going to be spoilt rotten by the sounds of it! The toys you have look to be a perfect size, to say you've never had a hedgie before you're doing a great job of catering for their needs
Which ever hoggie you end up getting will be very lucky indeedy!Has the decision been made yet as to if you are definitley getting one? Or do we still have to wait for hog decision day at the end of the month?

Re: Toy sizes
Well, we had the conversation whereby my OH looks over at me and goes, "...we're going to have to get one now, aren't we?". Apparently saying "I want a hog!" every time I see him is having an affect! Also, we bought some sea monkeys, and they hatched (yesterday), the silly man has gone all floppy over the tiny pin-prick moving dots! I think the decision has been made
Next thing is saving up. We've worked out it is going to be about £500 to set up, £100 of which we're having to give to the person we rent from for the privaledge of having a pet (even though we also paid a whooping great deposit as well *shakes fist*!). But it will require a load of saving up, and of course, finding the perfect hoglet! I'm thinking that (assuming temprement and all other things being equal) I'd like a dark coloured algerian (brown, chocolate, grey or black). I am loving those little dark snufflers! Although the white-bellied salt'n'peppers are also adorable. I am definitely a snowflake person though. Possibly...oh the decisions! But yes, I am thinking I prefer the darker colours (dark cinnacot and darker!), the banding is so pretty.
Really, the next thing is locating funds. So mebe a month or so. And getting the pets-allowed clause on our flat signed off. After that, it is off to hunt down a breeder with the perfect hoglet!

Re: Toy sizes
Ooo exciting times then!
I am the opposite... Im a sucker for the light colours
My twin sister loves the darker ones though
Also, I could be wrong but I think the salt n pepper ones are extremely rare over here. In fact I think they may only have them in the States
I could be wrong though so I'm sure someone will be around soon to correct me if I am!
Tis a shame though cos the salt n peppers are gorgeous!
Aww katymay, bless Tia with her kong! I'm sure she will figure it out soon

They are all darling. But I'm edging towards the darker shades. Pink noses haven't broken into my heart like dark snufflers have! Really all depends on what is available, and what I fall in love with on the day.
I'm working on organising getting up to the show, but a 3 hour journey both ways is proving to be a smidge of a stumbling block :(

Re: Toy sizes
My hogs prefer to play with toys that were not made for hogs at all.
Emily has a small stuffed kitten that is a little smaller than her and that she likes to drag around by the tail, lots of playsticks, chin sand, jingly balls to chuck in the sand and a small climbing frame with bells on.
Spike has a tumble dryer ball, tunnels and a cushion that he regularly uses but he's not really a "playing" hog, he'd rather run around chewing my upholstery.
