chinchilla sand

iv heard lots of good things about chinchilla sand, how do people use it though, as in, do you put it in a litter tray? is it designed to be pooped in as i believe they roll around in it?? confused.com.

I use it in all my litter trays...it seives really well so is easy to keep clean and yes, they dustbath in it too and no...this doesn't make them pong! lol!

ahhh i see. i use kitty litter at the mo and i sieve that every day, then do a full change and wash down once a week or twice if shes had a poop fest wacko

would the sand be around the same? il have to give it a try next time im in p.a.h big smile

yeah, that sounds about the same. Less whole-tray cleaning maybe, depends how deep the sand is x

less tray cleaning??! sounds like a winner to me then lol

so does it clump together with urine, or does it just absorb into the sand ?! x

it clumps just enough to be able to seive out the urine in lumps but not enough to cause issues if it was accidentally ingested x and in case you considered normal sand...dont! lol! I tried it and it ends up like a disgusting urine soup!! The chinchilla sand isn't technically a sand, it is more of a fine clay so it absorbs and clumps whereas normal sand doesn't absorb at all, it just gets saturated!

haha no i didnt realise it wasent actual sand, although i prob wouldnt have bought the regular stuff. will deffo have to try anyway big smile
