Different Types Of Tenrec?

I typed in Tenrec on google and it came back with loads of funny looking things!

Most of them are shrew/mole type tenrecs

But check out the streaked Tenrec!

Now is that amazing or what?!!

Did not know there were so many varieties! From the pictures, I think we have Lesser Hedgehog Tenrecs...but I'm basing that on a picture, and the fact that I know they are from Madagascar!

I think these were on the programme Madagascar last week. Didn't know there were so many varieties of hedgehog Smile

I'll jump in that queue with you! My god they are amazing! Like a bumblebee with legs lol!

Obviously not all of them are hedgehogs, but I never knew you could get so many of the same.

There are several different types, the common ones over here are the Lesser Tenrecs, then there are also the streaked tenrec, greater tenrec and the common tenrec. The programme on Madagascar showed the common tenrec and the babies were absolutely gorgeous - unfortunately not many of the other species are available and unlike hedgehogs, they would have to go into quarantine for six months although there have been rumours of some captive bred streaked tenrecs becoming available.
