New Hog wont eat

New Hog wont eat
Hi, I wonder if anyone has any advice? I collected my new (and first) Hedgehog on Friday and he has hardly eaten anything. He was being fed on Sainsbury chicken and duck cat biscuits but I am worried about giving them to him as they have fish oil in them. Can fish oil be harmful? I know I shouldn't give him anything with fish derivitives.
I've offered whiskas chicken cat biscuits and a teaspoonful of whiskas chicken cat food but he wont touch them.
He has eaten a few mealies but is not even showing much interest in them.
He does not look il, he is drinking normally and playing on his wheel. I don't want to panic if he's just taking his time to settle in but if I cant get him to eat dont want to wait too long before getting to a vet either!
Thank you!

As you say he might just be taking his time to settle in. Have you tried him with cooked chicken, egg or mince?

Fish oil is fine. There was a post about it here http://www.pygmyhogsuk.com/t11228-fish-oil?highlight=fish+oil
I know that when I first got my hog she didn't eat much and trashed her viv the first night, I would give him the food he is used to and keep a diary of how much he eats. Hopefully he starts eating a bit more soon

Wow thank you, that was a very quick response! I've got him some mince to try and if the biscuits he's used to are safe then hopefully that will do the trick.

some hoggies take time to settle and are a bit shy about eating infront of you, new surroundings and everything. Give the little one their same biscuits as they were reared on and try some chicken or mice and leave it in overnight, you will probably find it all gone in the morning

Re: New Hog wont eat
Thank you for the kind mesage but unfortunalty he is only eating the smallest amounts still. I spoke to a really nice vet this morning who seemed to know about APHs and he has recomended trying chicken baby food so I'm going to do that and keep my fingers crossed.
So far he has turned his nose up at everything! I've tried two types of cat biscuits (dry and moistened), dried and live meal worms, chicken cat food, mince and scrambled egg!
If anyone can suggest anything else I'd be very grateful!

Mine cant resist cooked chicken and turkey, he is getting some turkey. Infact i think he likes turkey more than chicken as whenever i put the turkey down regardless fo time, if he smells it he is straight out to nab and bit and take it back to bed
You could try on of those?

mine all seem to go crazy over lean steak mince. Cooked in saucepan and then I put what is left over in an ice cube tray and freeze then I have hoggie sized portions for another meal and no waste.

Re: New Hog wont eat
I didnt know hogs liked mice
Ive not tried mince with mine, but I shall give them some tonight.
I had terrible trouble with Herbie when he first arrived, he didnt seem to eat much either and would only eat his biscuit that he had been raised on. I used to give him new foods, but I would only introduce one a week and kept offering the same food each night and now he will eat quite a few different things, he was even scared of mealies and would head butt them or just ignore them, now they are his favorite, like everyone says they do take time to settle and as long as hes using his wheel and moving around, he may be getting enough, sometimes mine will eat about 50 odd biscuits and then other nights they only eat 20 odd. I used to worry like mad that Herbie was not eating enough.
once he started eating I then worried about heat and then light,
