Finacard vs Fleece, Pros and cons

Post  ljstar on March 21st 2011, 2:58 pm

Hi all,
Could someone who has experience of both types of bedding (fleece liners and finacard) please give me their opinion on the pros and cons of each? I'm trying t ascertain which is better.

I'm currently using fleece, and although my girl is litter trained, If she has the odd accident, I'm finding the fleece smells awful.Im changing the liner every other day, and turn it every day( so every day she has a 'fresh' floor), but for some reason the fleece just holds odours! She isnt a smelly hog, (believe me i smell her just to check!! lol) the fleece just smells.I dont know if its because she pees in the litter tray then walks back onto the fleece or smething like that? But visitors are commenting that it smells foul, even going so far as to accuse me of not cleaning her out regularly! All her cage equipment is cleaned regularly, and her litter tray is washed everyday and and has the kitchen roll changed twice a day. The cage itself is 'deep cleaned' once a week, more if necessary. She has 5 fleece liners, 4 pouches, and they are all made of fleece from different manufacturers, so it isn't an isolated brand problem.

So, Fleece or Finacard? Pros and Cons?
thanks guys.x

Finacard - cons: smells when wet and you must clean up any spillages fairly quickly because damp finacard + warm environment = mould if left to long, can fall out of the cage and I am forever picking up finacard from my stairs. Pros: cheap and you get value for money, great for nesting and digging hogs to create a natural environment

Fleece: Pros: can get a variety of pretty colours and fabrics to personalise hoggie home, I dont particularly find it smells tbh, easy to clean and reusable. Cons: not good for hogs that are going to pee on it (I dont find poop a problem as it just picks up), can end up with spikes in the washing machine lol and not good nesting material
