awwwwwwwwwwwwwww there beutiful
Helen and Karen may be able to help you on genders as they have had breeding pairs on here the longest.
I think but don't know that the males have less fur around the eyes but I also think its difficuklt to tell in youger ones. How old are they?

Re: Need Names! D: Picture Overload.
Hi Razzy - are they siblings?
Unfortunately, there are no obvious external signs of what sex they are - things to look out for
Squeaking - the male are very vocal, I have two suspected pregnant females who have been put into nurseries and the boys are busy squeaking away at the remaining two girls (seperate trios)
Eyes - the male will secrete a milky substance from his eyes which is showing he is ready to mate and his eyes will become puffy and look swollen.
Try getting them out together on you and see what the reaction is from them - if you have a male (I think you might from the second to last photo) he will start to produce the milk thing rather quickly.
Hope this helps
Names - I had to get help and my are
First Trio - Orinocho, Lillie and Tessie Termineater
Second Trio - Miss Adelaide, Shansi and McWomble

Thank you so much for that Nellie!
Yes they are siblings.. will I have to separate them?
I was looking out for the glazed over 'milky' eyes but he/her hasn't shown anything of the sort yet.. his/her eyes got slightly puffier when they moved into the new viv.

If they are different sexes, yes you will or they will interbreed - keep an eye on the one with the puffier eyes - I think you may have a male

Re: Need Names! D: Picture Overload.
Hm.
The breeder said that if one did turn out to be male I could keep them at a steady temp all year round and they wouldn't breed.. is this true?
I don't want to risk them breeding so if there is even the slightest chance I will remove him... just thought i'd check.
Thanks again!

Re: Need Names! D: Picture Overload.
This is supposed to be true but I have two trios, one was cooled down to breed and the other was kept at a steady temperature, I have a female from each trio that has been seperated into birthing nurseries - the males are squeaking at the remaining females and have milky eyes so they are definately breeding - me personally, would not keep a brother and sister together just in case. You may have two females but from outward appearances you cannot guarantee sexing them - not too sure if you have anybody near you with tenrecs but if you were to take the suspected male and put him with a female the eyes would start to milk and would become swollen, the milky eye thing is not permanent, one minute it is there and the next minute it is gone - the swollen eye look lasts longer - just to be on the safe side I would consider seperating until you can get the sex of them confirmed. You are able to keep one male with multiple females as they do live in colonies - my two girls who I suspect to be pregnant have been carefully marked up so that I know which trios they come from as I have requests for unrelated pairs.
Hope this helps but not probably what you were expecting to hear.

It's okay. Wasn't sure what I was expecting to hear tbh.
Thanks for the help! I am going to go see the breeder tomorrow and talk to him.. will take a copy of what you just said, also. I don't want to risk interbreeding by any means so if they need to be separated then there's not much else I can do... As long as it's best for them!
These guys are now known as Topsy and Turvy.

Re: Need Names! D: Picture Overload.
Talk to the breeder but just keep in mind that they are not possible to sex by looking at them externally, when Col came over for his new one last year we had five babies out and had to watch for their reactions to each other - males will undoubtably fight, especially with a female in their presence.
Options - you can house them seperately or you could swap one for one of the same sex/different sex at least then they would be unrelated if breeding was your end goal.
Tough call really but if I can be of any further help, please let me know.
