Help please :( Probleemm..
Hey Forum, I Wonder if anyone can please help me out.
My girlfriend and I Own a Tenrec Hedgehog, I posted this exact post in the hedgehog section by mistake as i didn't see this forum thread. = \ . Hope you guys could help me..
We've had Our hedgehog for about maybe 6 months or say. I'd say he is about 10 months old all together.
the first say 4 months he has been awesome, running around and lively. In his wheel all the time. A real ball of fun. But as though it was overnight he seemed to get really slow and sluggish, progressively worse and worse. if I watch him walk around he seems to limp on his right front paw as though it was sore using it half on and off like he injured it, if i touch it gently or move it, he doesn't make a noise or pull away so it doesn't seem sore for him its like nothing that's fazing him. We're getting really worried because its been about two months now and he is just so slow and eating really slowly (not enthusiastically like he used to) But still nonetheless eating. He is also going to the bathroom fine as well and stools don't look any different than before. They look healthy. - We currently feed him Meal worms(calcium powdered) and Crickets, With the Fruits when he feels like some.
I called the Exotic pet vet which cost us like R500 (South African Rand - 45 pounds) just to see him. She said there was nothing wrong and just de-wormed him. Clearly there is something wrong because he wont walk on his paw and doesn't move much. Its end of Autumn, Going into winter in South Africa at the moment and it gets surprisingly very cold here but he has a heating pad and is given daily warmth and sunlight..I REALLY don't know what the problem is.
Has anyone encountered something similar or have any advice for us?
PS: I could post pictures or a video if need be to help explain it..
Thanks in advance. Really worried over here :(

I think it has a lot to do with the temperatures. They do slow Dow a lot as the weather cools and the days get shorter they go into a semi hibernation that is nothing to worry about. My best guess is it's that my welly is just getting more active now its warming up and getting lighter x

Thanks alot:) that's Brilliant News
Well I had a hunch the Cold could be the factor for the slow and sluggishness since when we got him it was summer and warm so he was really up and about and it currently really really cold here at the moment = \ Though I'm still a bit weary of his leg. Any idea what it could be? he just doesn't want to walk on it and when he climbs he will will use his one paw and his nose instead of that paw that looks like its injured...Its not sore though because you can hold it and he doesn't pull it away or make any sort of noise. It doesn't look any different from the other either (swollen or crooked) = \ This one really has got me puzzling.

Does he climb? I know my welly climbs and fall sometimes maybe he has knocked it? It might be worth getting the vet to x ray it

yeah! He used to climb like a little monkey. On anything he could find, but now he's just kind of over it = \ Not sure if it is because of the cold and hes all slow and sluggish or because of his paw.. It's been two months like this though, not showing any sign of pain either. I Think Getting an x-ray is probably my best bet at the moment.

Re: Help please :( Probleemm..
I don't have any experience of Tenrecs so feel free to ignore me. Have you checked his claws, pads etc and whole foot leg square mm by square mm. Use a good magnifying glass and lamp. Something is clearly wrong. Think about the wheel he runs in. Has it got any holes or ridges that could have pulled out a claw or splintered etc. I'm not sure a x-ray will show up very small injuries, just broken bones, which are not indicated. Have a very close examination and bathe the area with some warm salt water, probe with a blunt matchstick to see if any part is particularly sensitive. HTH
