Non-adventurous eater... advice needed
Hi Everyone, I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice for Wilson, my extremely fussy boy...
Wilson is now about 4.5 months old and is becoming more fussy rather than more adventurous with food!
When we got him from the breeder he was on Iams kitten food (purple pouch). I have done lots of reading on the forum and have tried adding new biscuits gradually in the hope that he will eat a more varied diet (tried Royal Canin, then James Wellbeloved then Science Plan). I have added these to his Iams food individually and have persisted with them for over 2 weeks each. At first he ate a few Royal Canin biscuits but soon went off them. He won't touch any of the other biscuits, only Iams.
I have cooked him plain chicken, egg and beef - he won't touch them. He has also been fed dried mealies (ate about 10 over 2 weeks and wouldn't touch them again) and dried crickets. He has also been offered strawberry and banana... to no avail!
I have been persistent with foods and have tried placing them in seperate bowls as well as in his biscuit bowls hoping the smell of biscuits will help lure him to eat the new foods.
I would love him to eat a more varied diet (anything but just Iams!) but he doesn't seem so agree with my wishes. I am worried that he is missing out on nutrients and that his health could suffer as a result.
Any ideas for the fussy boy?

Live mealworms would be my recommendation, since then you can at least gut load them with other goodies. Aside from the dangers of dried insects, I think of it as, how would I like to eat freeze-dried ice cream (my favourite food) rather than real ice cream - might be a novelty once in a while, but I'd definitely prefer the real thing
And how about mince with crushed iams biscuits (pop a few in a baggy, use a rolling pin) sprinkled on top?

The post by Kiania is really good advice.
How about dinks soup?? Does your hedgie enjoy playing games? maybe he would rather hunt and find the food? I usually hide pieces of corn / mince / chicken around Rigbees cage, (under his bridge, on top of the bridge, on his teddy bears, under the teddy bears etc etc) just an idea.
Hope all goes well
