very dry flakey skin and quill loss

right i took him to the vets today and they agreed that it is most probably a mite problem. paco was very upset so they gassed him so they could examine him properly. they have given me pure Ivermectin to put on him every 2 weeks for the next 6 weeks and then monthly after that. she said that should clear things up and new quills are growing so we are hopeful he will make a full recovery x

Neo once lost 49 quills in one hour when i was stroking him, i have asked here and somebody said its common when having heat mat. i know you said you have a mite problem and i don't even know if you use a heat mat but for me it work when i change his mat settings, he does not have it all the time now, he does have one hour off, one hour on and it improved so much that he is not losing any quills now.
like i said not sure if its any help to you but it might

Hope he is ok with his treatment

He seems even balder now but his skin is not as flakey, I feel dead sorry for him but the vet said it would take a while to see an improvement

Awww, no wonder he was all grumpy. Bet he'll soon be back to his old self again.x

I know I would be grumpty too LOL!! I am so glad he is better, poor little love.

My hoggle has the same flaky skin unfortunately, he's been treated with Xeno 50 and has already had two doses and another next saturday, although mine isn't quilling he was just mistreated and left with mites :( hope he gets better soon

Thank you 4 posting this and ur pics, My hedgie is looking like this 2, hes 18 months old now tho ive just come back from my holiday and the poor little thing had dry skin, i treated it with skin cream. but then his spikes began 2 fall out n the flakes seem thicker, whiter and he keeps scratching. Ive got an appointment with the vet tomorrow, but after seen ur post it looks just like it. I feel awful, poor little thing. Did they do any tests for mites? i cant see anything moving personally.

no i couldnt see them moving either but there was that much dry skin i dont think i would have. vet didnt test but seemed pretty sure it was mites to make his skin in that bad a state. good luck tomorrow and let me know what your vet says
