Help Please!

Post  LilMizSpiky on Wed 24 Aug 2011, 8:24 pm

I really struggling to keep Lilly weight up shes not a big girl length wise and she loves her wheel but i can help noticing how thing she looks she is 295g and is not the same tear drop shape as Caspar- who is coming along very nicely- she just goes straight up and down, there is no shape to her at all, im really worried, i would have posted much sooner but our internet broke down and i couldn't get online. What can i feed her and should i limit her wheel use? She is currently on a mix of cat food and pork or chicken every other day and of coarse mealies, please help.

Milly

I've heard that pork is a no no. Anyway I've had the same problem with my Blossom so I messed about with her biscuit mix and she seems to like the new mix better because she eats more of it. I also give her loads of mealies and regularly give her minced beef, this seems to keep her weight up.

pork is too salty

you could try a higher fat biscuit in your mix - something like the joe and jills and being a little freer with the mealies - be careful feeding too much fat too quickly though and/or relying on fatty bugs like waxworms as they are prone to fatty liver disease - any weight gain should be planned like weight loss - slow and steady

My rescue boy Quinn is an avid wheeler, to the extend where he wheels when he should be eating. I found by playing around with his cat biscuit mixture, higher protein biscuits added, I was able to keep his weight maintained, although I dont think he will ever be a large or fat hoggie. I did try limiting his wheel use but he trashed his viv - upturned litter tray, liner in a scrunched up heap in the middle of his viv and upturned food & water bowls.

Iams chicken biscuits are quite high in protein (also in fat) I only put a small amount in my mix but they could be good for weight gain and they have one of the highest chicken content of the ones I've found
