Build up Chicken soup

Post  wobbler on Sat 27 Aug 2011, 4:45 pm

Hi

So I have a poorly hedgehog with a poorly leg, this is stopping him from standing up properly to eat and drink.

I am syringe feeding him and he is eating it reasonably well though wet cat biscuits do not come through the syringe very well.

I have done alot of reading and have read that people have used complan b to build their strength back up as its packed with vitamins and minerals.

My question is this, I have some of the build up chicken soup and looking at the ingrediants in Complan and Build up is very similar just the amount of vitamins vary, BUT both of these products have milk powder in them,

The Complan B has milk proteins in it,
The Buildup has milk proteins and skimmed milk powder in it.

I know hedgies are lactose intoleran and was wondering if these are safe to give or not?

Thanks in advance for advice.

I give pets at home Pro-c, might be worth looking at this to see if it's any good for what you're looking for?

Don't use complan because of the milk. It will upset his stomach and do more harm than good. the best thing for syringe feeding is Hills Prescription a/d. Its a tinned food, kind of like pate which mixed with a little water goes through a syringe. It is high in nutrients and specifically for poorly/weak animals that need building up.

I have been told that you can get it from vets, although I dread to think of the cost. I buy mine online http://www.petmeds.co.uk/p-3426-hills-prescription-diet-ad-24-x-156g.aspx you might be able to buy single tins online somewhere.
