Keeping hedgehog warm in ZooZone2 cage
Hi everyone I have just got my first hedgehog Hollie who is settling in well. But i am slightly confused with how to keep her cage warm enough. i was going to use a snuggle pad as was concerned about a heat mat as Hollie seem to like to move everything and bury under blankets and i didnt want her to get burnt. How is the best way to heat this type of cage. At the moment she has sawdust on floor which is what breeder had, a fleecey blanket in her igloo home (by savic) and her tray with cat litter. I am waiting for her flying saucer wheel to be delivered. Thanks for any help

Go with the heatmat hon but put it UNDER the cage, not in it! That way it warms the base of the cage but hoggie cannot mess with it in any way. You can stand a ZZ2 straight on a heat mat as there is a natural airgap created by the patterning on the underside of the cage. You may want to protect whatever your cage stands on by placing a towel on it first, then the heat mat, then the cage x I do this all the time with some of my ZZ2 that need heating and it works a treat x

Heatmat under cage will do, try the petnap one, the bigger ones come with thermostat.
I use a snugglesafe, this due to my home being quite warm, with double glazing and well isolated. Snugglesafe stays warm for around 8-10 hours. And snugglesafe seems enough. I bought heat mat, but have not been using it and it is in back of storage cupboard at moment.

I use a CHE sitting on the top of my zoozone2 and my boyfriend picked up some silver insulation material from his work to place on the top that stops the heat from escaping through the wire at the top
and of course lots of snuggly material and fleece blankets!

gmcc2812 have you also thought about air circulation and how fresh air will be able to get in and out of the zoozone?

Yes I have thank you. I know I'm a newbie but it doesn't mean I don't know what I'm doing. I created slits in the material at the top so that there is still ventilation so he is still getting plenty of air circulation.
