live food
As its christmas I wanted to treat my hoggie to something a bit different! He often gets live meal worms which he loves, but what other live food would you all recommend. I have read a few articles on crickets and they dont sound like a great idea. Any suggestions please?
Thanks you and merry christmas!!!!!!

I feed crickets and she loves them
They are the dead kind, come in a can because I don't want crickets hopping about in my house! Have you tried waxworms? They are available in most pet shops.

Yeah I get the cans of crickets, the mini ones because Tia won't eat the bigger ones. She doesn't eat fresh meat when I offer it to her, but loves insects so I try to give her a variety of insects. I've heard reports of hogs liking locusts! I don't think they come in a can though so I will probably not be getting those!

I usually feed my Brambles meal worms and she loves them, she eats them in record time. I have not tried any other live food et, but have tried some cooked mincemeat which she loved.

Re: live food
i've offered my two crickets with the legs pulled off so that they can be caught easily as it was painful watching the two of them chasing after a cricket who clearly had the advantage.

live food
mine wont eat live food by the look of it :-( I got some crickets fed them up and she didnt like them, so i put them in the freezer and thought maybe its cuz it is a live put them out in a dish didnt touch them yet i then rubbed them in the dry mealworms and she bloody ate them lol, might try her with live mealworms to see but have a feeling its whatever thats in the packet that she knows the smell of which makes her want them......... I can only but try hey, shame if thats the case as i thought it would be good for her to hunt a bit for her food
if not ill stick to gut loading the crickets up and putting them in the freezer, i know they can get mites and pass them onto the animals so sometimes i think freezing the crickets least that would kill the mites on them if you couldnt see them, i do try to check they look ok before i do anything with them .
