DIY Vivs & a new addition

Post  Redswife on December 28th 2011, 4:32 pm

Hey everyone, im DIYING a stack of vivs. 3 vivs high. Im looking for some insight into sizes, basically im looking at the viv being 3 ft long inside and 1ft 5.72inch wide. looks huge when i measure it however im unsure. Im thinking of making it 2 ft high and putting in a second story.

The reason being, i had an email from a friend who can no longer keep her hog. Hes lovely, 2 and a half and my house already being a zoo and having uno holly hog i agreed!

any insight would be very greatful.

Welcome to the forum, please put up pictures of your hedgehog when you get it. I know there are some posts on the forum about DIY vivs with pictures etc, have a look at these and it might give you the inspiration you need to build your own. My Brambles lives in zoozone, but i think at some point I will make him a DIY viv with levels as well.

remember that an exercise wheel is required and if it is an upright design, like a Silent Spinner or Comfort Wheel, these need about 14 to 16 inches clearance to allow free movement and for them to stand in a litter tray so if you have a second floor in a two foot high viv, it will need to be higher than half way or not a full length level.

Unsure of whether you wanted a biggen but I've come accross a bloke on preloved who does different size variums that he makes.

http://www.preloved.co.uk/adverts/show/104040273/vivarium-stack.html

I'm planning on buying one as £140 really isn't a lot of money for the use it will make and I get 4 vivariums out of it!..

I'm planning on knocking holes through the bases on three of them, and using tunnels to link all 3 sections together to house my Degu's as they need floor space over height.. so I think this will make them very happy to have a little Degu mansion big smile

The bottom or top section could be used for my hog.. and the spare vivarium I already am housing Maisie can be used for any other purpose as I've been debating signing up for the carer's appeal Dink recently posted on.

Think may use the bottom one for the degus for a big foraging box, loads of hay and toys Very Happy

and the top one for Maisie Smile

Ah actually it seems it's not high enough to fit a Silent Spinner and tray. Shame, it looked really good.
