Rescue Hog Blog
Yesterday i rescued a lovely male hog named 'Porridge'. His owner could no longer give him the attention he needed and i was contacted via facebook. His previous owner was lovely, and i could tell that she wanted the best for him. Unfortunatly she had so many animals that need lots of cuddles as she rescues rabbits etc and Porridge was being pushed aside. He is two and a half and a charming chap. He was being kept in a small cage with hay and straw and let out at night to have the run of the kitchen and from what i gather was also kept outside
. Hes now in his element in a fleecey zz with heating. His nails need trimmed and he needs a good bath but il hold off for a couple of days as i treated him yesterday for mites just incase. He seems to only have 1 canine tooth aswell as has slight dry skin which the flaxseed oil in his lunch should sort.
Im only used to Holly whos a female....I never realised how big hedgehogs 'balls' actualy are!
The only photo i have of him at the moment is this one below that his previous owner sent me. He comes out easy....hes just blooming camera shy.

awwwww.
He looks a sweetie. Good for you for rehoming him.
Im really shocked at the numbers of rehomes/rescues coming in at the moment. Homeless Hogs are really busy at the moment.

How we waste our precious time Marching in the picket lines That surround those striking hearts. How the time is never now, And we know who we should love, But we're never certain how. I know, You might roll your eyes at this, But I'm so Glad that you exist.

Porridge is very lucky to have you, he looks so cute. It's so sad to hear that some hedgies are not looked after very well. I hope Porridge settles into his new life well and I am sure he will think all his Christmases have come at once!

Re: Rescue Hog Blog
Lucky porridge!
So unfortunate to see so many hogs in rescues at the moment.
I saw a post on preloved today that simply said "Hedgehog was unwanted christmas present"
Like it was a DVD or something.
It's so heartbreaking.
My dad mentioned one of his work mates wanted one after my dad showed him a picture of mine and I made damn sure my dad took my copy of my care package booklet with him to lend to the bloke as I cannot stand how people think they are like hamsters or gerbils that can live in a tiny barred cage with a water bottle and given hay/straw etc when they are much more delicate and need more care than that.
Lucky Porridge was given to the right owner

Re: Rescue Hog Blog
Porridge is such a lovely name, really seems to suit him. There seem to be indeed quite a few unwanted hedgehogs for sale. A lot of people indeed see its cuteness but do not seem to realise what comes with it. But I am sure porridge will have a lovely home with you.

Re: Rescue Hog Blog
trouble is people forget about the spikes...yes they dont hurt when your little one gets used to you
but thats not going to happen with a child who wont be handling after they get hurt first of all.
my little girl still wont put her spikes right down for my husband like she does for me,and last night
becauce i was ill he got her out and she was huffy and spiky all eve.

Re: Rescue Hog Blog
Its silly. One woman commented askign if i could post a video of one of the hogs huffing on youtube. I mean...hiffing is when they are scared. I dont find it cute!
I have put them off in big bold red writing haha.
I took this picture of porridge. hes very camera shy! He comes out and stops huffing, but huffs as soon as he sees the camera.

He has one scabby ear that is split in half and healed. Unsure if he had been in a fight before i got him or could mites have done this serious damage? That ears scabby, so iv treated him for mites and added flax seed into his meals.

Re: Rescue Hog Blog
My hog had xeno 50 and he could be bathed after 36 hours
The vet said it's not nessecary to leave it on for any longer as the treatment will have already done its job.
Hopefully Porridge will feel better soon
He's such a cutie!! x
