Trouble with Buttercup

Post  St.Ives Soo on January 14th 2012, 9:24 pm

.She has always been the loon of the clan, running round like a mad thing, and hardly ever keeping still, but over the last 6 or so weeks, she is like a thing possessed, running madly round the room endlessly without stopping for most of the hour or so she is downstairs. Now for the last 4 nights, to such an extent, that she seems to have no time to eat. She either carrys on running in her wheel when I put her back in her cage, or goes straight to sleep, without touching her food.

Mealworms still get gobbled up, and she is pooing/weeing normally, and is bright and alert....

I have tried feeding her earlier, before she comes out, and for a while it worked, but now mealies are the only thing she is interested in! Also I havn't spotted her drinking, although she may do that upstairs..

I have some of dinks soup cooked up to see if I can tempt her with that tonight.. Any ideas would be appreciated please.

What food does she usually get offered at night? And nothing *at all* apart from the meal worms has gone?

I have a running obsessed hog, she's a tiny little thing. I've sat and watched her one night and she'll run non stop for maybe half an hour, get off to have one piece of food, then start running again. It's impossible to feed her when you get her out because she just moves so fast.

Some of my less active hogs eat more than her, but then again she's so small because of all her running. I ask what she gets offered, as if she's still pooping maybe she's eating just during the night?

Thanks

She has a dish of mince or chicken, and biscuits .... she has always been a good eater, and would always eat the meat in one sitting, leaving only some biscuits to see her thru the night...

I know she is not eating anything during the night, as her dish is left untouched in the morning. She always has about 6 live mealies while she is out having her runabout downstairs, which she gobbles down, they dont touch the sides!.... she hears the lid coming off the mealie tub, and comes running to hubby's chair, looks pleadingly up at him, nose twtching, and running in circles like a little puppy till he gives them to her!

dinks chicken soup was sniffed at and ignored last night, as was a new batch of 'best' mince, which I cooked and served up warm... the other hogs loved it!!!

Buttercup seems to be quite an intelligent and interactive hog.... perhaps she has worked out that if she doesn't eat her tea, she gets more mealies! wi

Have you checked her mouth? Could be a problem tooth, or damage to her mouth? Particularly if she won't eat biscuits.

Smile She ate most of her mince last night and the night before, and is more like her old self again.... I'm wondering if is her teeth, as she's eaen no biscuits...... Oh, and her poo looks normal enough, but smells foul, even fouler than usual! yuk

We are going away tomorrow for a few days... hubby is taking me to Paris to celebrate my 60th affraid birthday bounce As Buttercup seems fine otherwise, I'm not too worried, but have left my daughter my log in details, so if there is an emergency, she can come on here and shout for help! unsure

Will get her, and her teeth checked out when we get back anyway I think... that should be fun!!
