Upgrading to ceramic heaters
So I have upgraded the hogs all to 3ft vivs and now I have decided to bite the bullet and upgrade them all to ceramic heaters rather than the snuggle safe pads and trying to heat the room which is becoming increasingly more difficult.
Any advice of the best positioning of the bulb?

Re: Upgrading to ceramic heaters
My bulb was already built in to the vivarium when I got my first hog (they sold the viv with him) and the bulb is placed on the right hand side of the viv, and I put his bed on the left hand side of it so that his sleep area is cooler than being directly under the bulb.
Hope that helps in some way

Re: Upgrading to ceramic heaters
Hi,
I am just about to fit out my new viv with ceramic heat bulbs, I will also put one at the other end of the bed but what size
wattage will I need, I have seen 150watt but I think that will be too warm there is also 75watt, would this be better?

Re: Upgrading to ceramic heaters
I use two 150watt bulbs with an open cage (144 x 116cm area). With a viv, you won't need 150 watts, especially with only a 3 foot viv. I'd probably got for a 100 watt in a viv, myself. If you've got a stack, you might be able to get away with 75watts in the higher vivs (100watts in the bottom one) due to the rising heat, but without ever having to heat a viv myself, that is only what I'd aim for in that situation.

Re: Upgrading to ceramic heaters
I have opted for the 100w option for all 3 of my vivs but if it turns out that won't heat it enough i have an oil heater i can sit near the vivs or indeed upgrade to a higher wattage bulb but from what i have read 100w should do the job in a 3ft viv.
