Anyone had a cancer wellness checkup before?

Post  rachaellyndsey on January 28th 2012, 9:22 am

The vet called my husband on Thursday to arrange a cancer wellness check, but the other half didn't ask what this involved or anything, so I'm just wondering if anyone else has had one??

My hedgehog has a tumor on her lower jaw, she's had it since the beginning of November. It was impossible to operate without removing the whole lower jaw, so we're trying to slow down the growth with Apocaps and Metacam. Essentially the vet visit is for the vet to assess Jenny to see if the vet would be ok with performing another operation on her when the tumor gets so big that it affects her eating

The only thing my husband could remember was something about checking her hydration, and something about her kidneys. I'm just worried because we tried to get a blood test done on her before, and the vet had huge difficulty getting a vein and in the end gave up, & Jenny got really aggressive last time they tried to anesthetize her so I'm stressing over what's going to be involved!!

Any thoughts/experience??

Our vet uses gas to get the hog sleepy before giving the injection. He put Wilbur in a little box connected to a hose so he was just sitting still breathing in the gas - nothing to really distress him. I think even a tightly balled hog would get very sleepy. Sorry don't know anymore about cancer tests.
