is there an alternative to catfood?
Ok guys,
we've moved in with our mother in law for a while and she's complaining about the smell of catfood...
we're using whiskas in jelly... with biscuits, - now my girly is very stubborn...
She pushes the biscuits out the way and eats the meat and ignores the biscuits...
So today I've boiled some potatos...
cooked up some peas and carrots and blended it all together in my blender (without milk or butter etc)
just hoping I can tempt her to eat it..

Umm...where to start...
Firstly, wet cat food is not good to feed - consider it to be a rare treat. Kibble should be there constantly, and fresh food would be tinsy chopped pieces of fruit/veg (see the sticky on what is good/not good to feed) and mince (beef is good, turkey also has my hog's approval). Whiskas is generally considered to be bad quality food anyway, both kibble and wet food - it is almost all filler.
Secondly, why blend the food? It would be like living on mushy soup, ick! Finely chop fruit and veg - or I know a few people use the Tesco's own value brand of frozen veg. I either finely chop, or pop a few pieces of the frozen veg in a gu puds pot (and microwave the frozen on high for a minute), then add a teaspoon full of mince (possibly slightly less - depends on your hog's weight.
Hogs are insectivores first and foremost. They need insects. Because we can't offer enough variety, we take into consideration that they are opportunistic carnivores - ie they eat meat if they find it. Hence the cat kibble, mince, and meaty treats. Don't be surprised if your hog never touches the fruit or veg - most completely ignore it - they aren't vegetable eaters in the wild, but in captivity, we like to offer variety. I pop some in, knowing Bodhi changes are won't eat any, but if it is there, she can have the option - and also gives her enrichment trying to get the mixed-up mince out from around it!!

Agree with everything in the post above
Kibble probably has little odour in comparison to wet cat food too. Even so i wouldnt think wet cat food would smell THAT bad. I have relatives who have cats fed on mixed kibble and wet cat food and it doesnt smell bad. Or maybe im just weird in the manner that i actually like the smell of cat/dog food

I also remember reading that wet catfood can make hog poos absolutely reek - the same as fish makes them stink. That isn't going to help the M-I-L calming either!
