dry skin??

dry skin??
I've searched about a bit but nothing really answered my questions.
Chopper has dark grey skin under his quills and I noticed the other day is appears to look like dry skin? I will try and get a photo of his skin but has anyone got a photo of healthy hedgehog skin?
What is the best cure for dry skin? I don't want to rub anything on there and prefer not to use oils in the bath water as chopper is a nightmare to dry! He runs around like a headless chicken and then curls up when I try and dry his tummy (he hates it being touched)!
How often should a hedgehog be bathed also? I do his feet quite often but how often for his quills etcs?
Thanks

Re: dry skin??
you can try using flaxseed oil capsules.. you just pierce the capsule and pour it on the dry food every other day, its good for moisturising their skin.

Oh lovely. ROBINGAGA has a friend.... (Check their posts and you will see they post the same generic meaningless things, I do not think these are real people).
I've heard of some using humilac spray which is for dogs with success, but not sure if anyone here has tried it? I found it on hedgehog central and there seemed to be a division in opinion if it was OK or not.
This is the stuff:

Re: dry skin??
Joanne.... you use a whole capsule for each hog every other day??
I use just 3 or 4 drops for each hog, approx every week and a half, to two weeks to maintain good skin, and Rose [who has dry skin] has the same amount once a week.
I wonder what others do .....

Re: dry skin??
If Bodhi has dry skin, I use one capsule once a week max (the capsules aren't big). It is rather fattening
Good for fur and coats though - my hamster has flaxseeds to make her coat fluffy and shiny too
I know some people dripping vegetable/coconut oil over their hogs after bathing. Not sure about this myself, I'm a flaxseed capsule user
Thing with bathing is that it dries out skin, so more is not a good thing.
Oh, and lastly, central heating is a killer for hog skin - I've seen a fair few people recommending a humidifier (either the fancy electrical sort, the stylish shop-bought pot sort, or the DIY cup-onna-radiator sort) near to hogs to increase the humidity in the air - same as for humans, we get dry skin in winter due to central heating

I use the flaxseed capsules too (currently buy one get one half price in Holland and Barrett). I usually use one capsule per hog per week and put a few drops on their back and the rest on the biscuits.
