Ventilation question, Plastic Vivarium.

Post  Elle&Frankie on May 16th 2009, 4:11 pm

Hi all,
Just bought a new vivarium, but I was wondering whether it has adequate ventilation for a hedgie, it is 3ft long by 2ft, and has several layers of small holes drilled, along the whole length of the 3ft. 4 small vents that were as standard are on the back aswell. I've tried to take a pic so you can see the holes with the light on inside the Viv. Also, it has a few holes to the roof. What do you guys think?

They will need more ventilation. Is there any way you can change the front e.g glass for fly netting. I think some others have done that? Or put in extra vents etc.

Hopefully someone with a viv will come along and be able to advise you big smile

I would just make a couple/four of holes in the back mid-high height couple of inches in diameter. May need more but that's just careful watching for a while i guess.

Thanks for the replies, I did think it might need more free flowing airflow, I was thinking of getting the jigsaw and cutting a strip about 3 inches wide across the back where the little holes are, of the whole length of the viv. Does anyone know if that would be enough?

Well.. I've got the drill out, and put a hole cutter thingybob on the end, and cut 6 holes all the way accross the back. All the holes are about 2.5 inch in diameter, so i'm pleased with myself now and I think it now has enough ventilation - yay big smile
