Building My Vivarium.
Sorry for so many Questions, I just want to get it right.
I've drawn up some plans of what my Vivarium will hopefully look like (I'll try upload them later), with measurements. Then I searched around the internet for the mesh which I've found on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1200MM-STAINLESS-MESH-FOR-WINDOWS-DOORS-REPTILE-CAGES_W0QQitemZ300319574665QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_BOI_Restaurant_RL?hash=item45ec710a89&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms; and I will be getting some white wood soon, any suggestions?
Now I know its not necessary but I want to make sure that the Hedgehog will be healthy, So I'm worried about the temperature. So I've looked around in the 'Live Food Shop' and seen that it is mainly for Reptiles, which is fine but will the following products be suitable for a Hedgehog?
The Habistat Reptile Radiator: http://www.livefoods.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=151
With the Habistat Dimmer Thermosta: http://www.livefoods.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=153connected to it.
Oh and for extra safety the Lucky Reptile Thermometer Deluxe: http://www.livefoods.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=767
I will have the Thermostat on a 'side panel' connected to the Radiator, but where is best for the radiator? On a side wall? Also will the Radiator need some covering?
As for lighting, I'm thinking a normal light? Will this be okay? And Will this affect the power that the radiator is set to? (I know I have the Thermometer but I'd like to know what I'm doing prior).
Many thanks, Jack.

This is the size plan, still need to do top and bottom :P The Rectangle and circle on the side panel will be the thermometer and thermostat. Also the mesh area with the 100mm boarder will be a lift up/down door attached with hinges. The side panels will go on either side, and the third separating the side panel and the Vivarium, so the it keeps the electrical equipment hidden and out of reach.

Hi Mate!
Looks good! but dont think you need the radiator! Usually the heat in a central heated house should be sufficient! otherwise if the room is colder than normal the you can get one of those heaters for the room!

Oh... Well in that case I might either make one HUGE one or two out of my plans. Do hedgehogs go nice together? (I know males fight) What about two females? And What about a male and female? Okay I'd have to get one 'done' to prevent breeding unless, i looked into the breeding side.

hogs are solitary animals so they do not live well together. Males definately fight when put together unless your lucky, I wouldnt put a male and female together either.
However I did read somewhere that sisters (from the same litter)will live well up to about 6 months old. dont hold me to that tho! lol!

Iv never heard of a hedgehog being spade, wouldnt advise it anyway as vets dont like to put them under anesthetic for long.

Re: Building My Vivarium.
Yea I agree with biscuitbum, I've never heard of a hedgie being speyed or castrated at all and I've been working in small animal practices (inc an exotic ones) for 2 weeks yrs in my hols.
I don't think they tolerate anaesthesia too well due to losing heat very fast and vets don't like to put them under for long as they are a relative unknown species in the vet world at the moment wrt drugs etc.
I would recommend that you make 2 vivs instead of one large one, or one large one with a partition down the middle.
I've heard of sisters living together, but deffo not two males, or a male and female as you will get unwanted pregnancies and its unfair on the hogs too.
The plans look really good, but I would say that you don't need the radiator or stat etc as a normal centrally heated room will normally be fine, the thermometer is a good addition though
Hope that helps a little bit and good luck with the viv building!!!

go for vivs the smae size as the zoo zones x
one each definalty as they can live together for years then one day turn on one another (bit like me & my sister) so you would have to have 2nd housing just incase x
