MDF Vivarium

Post  ladypegasus on October 28th 2009, 7:40 am

Hi, does anyone know if a vivarium made of MDF would be safe for hogs? I'm assuming it would need to be sealed...what with though?

Thanks

Claire

yes its fine as long as the MDF is thick enough if your going to use them to stack or have things on top (min 12mm - pref 18mm) - seal with aquarium sealant - leave it air for a bit afterwards though because it stinks!!!

Well I've just ordered 3 MDF stackable Vivariums for Horace. + Mrs Horace (when she arrives) and 1 spare for...well who knows, maybe a Ms Horace! lol. Shall also use my zoozone2's for the front room and to socialize any new hogs and hoglets (nicking your idea Bonnie lol).

Cant wait for the vivs to arrive...they are going to be in the utility room though and the back door is kept open alot of the time so have to go down the route of looking at heating again.

I was thinking of not just sealing them but jazzing them up a bit with paint. What sort of paint should I use, any I guess on the outside but wasn't sure if its a good idea on the inside (just throwing ideas around).

6 days delivery and counting lol x

They are 3' in length, 17" high and 1' in depth. I have just mailed seller as they dont have the extra ventilation that they said they would put in so maybe they might exchange? Fingers crossed.

Have never been a reptile fan, had a garter snake as a kid but never really fell in love with them.

What else could live in there???...hmmm maybe tortoises? OOO what about mice, be a lovely enclosure for mice...could sell them onto you lot then for your lizardy things! lol! (this thread is obviously in humour just in case I upset any of you reptile peoples! Cool )
