Cage floor and bedding ... whats best!!!!
Hi everyone ,
I am nearly ready i think to purchase our first Hoggie ... we have the cage on order and toys and house are sitting waiting . I'm still not quite sure what to use on the floor of the floor of the cage... i was going to use Chinchilla's sand for the littler area . Can you recommend something that i can use ... that would be safe for him /her .
Many thanks in advance

I've started using fleece as i was finding wood shavings everywhere!!
A lot of people use finacard (they seem to be updating there website http://www.finacard-uk.com/ ) apparently you get a huge bale of it which lasts months. It's a finely chopped eco-friendly cardboard litter.

Dexter has a kitten litter tray which has chinchilla sand in it (he loves rolling in it and it gets everywhere!!). You'll find a lot of people also sit the wheel in there too because hoggies will go to the toilet whilst on their wheel, hence us talking about poo boots and having to clean wheels!!

i use a sort of rectangle dog bed that fits the zoozone perfect and leaves a bit of space at the end where put fleeces and pouch for my hogs bed,
currently using cat litter for her litter tray, and everyone says finacard is great for bedding, think im going to give that a try next when i get a proper wooden house

I use something similar to puppy training pads ...started on fleece ..but I was having to swap it daily ..and the washing got abit much lol!
I dont have a litter tray ...madam wont use it lol! And the flying saucer did'nt really fit snugly in it ..so easier just to swap over the training pad every morning ..and then bin it

Cleanliness
Just wondering how often each of you clean the cages for you hoggies.
So I'm guessing the litter tray should be sieved every day but replaced once or twice a week.
If using finacard is it just a fine layer on the bottom replaced once a week?

I clean the wheels out every night as they can honk a bit, and give them a full clean out twice a week.
I have mine on vet bed with newspaper underneath, and they have fleece puches to curl up in.

What is it like for soaking the 'pee' up, does it clump up, and does it stick to the bottom of the cage?
Thanks
