Is it true hedgehogs musn't have fish?

Hi guys, the question is in the title ^
Is this right? I'm pretty sure I've read that hedgehogs musn't have fish products or flavourings, annoyingly I can't get to my e-mail at the moment because my care sheet is in there and I'm pretty sure it mentioned something about that.

The reason I am asking is because I was going to get pets at home purely chicken as the staple food for my hog but I was just checking the ingredients and nutritional content of this cat food and I noticed it contains fish meal. Now I am confused, so if anyone can shed any light I would be grateful

Fresh Chicken (min. 26% in the brown disc shaped biscuit), Poultry Meat Meal, Rice (min. 19%), Poultry Oil, Sugar Beet Pulp, Egg Powder, Fish Meal, Minerals, Meat and Animal Derivatives, Maize Gluten, Barley, Oats, Vegetables (Carrot, Pea, Spinach) Fruit (Citrus Pulp, Grape Pomace). Coloured with natural EC Additives. Total Chicken min. 40%

I have just found this statement on the diet sticky for newbies on this forum:

Fish – It is believed that hedgies cannot digest fish or fishmeal properly.

I don't know what to do now because loads of people seem to feed purely without problems, perhaps the fishmeal in it is such a small amount as to be negligible? What's the general consensus?

You are correct in what you say but most people use the purely as a mix as (if memory serves me correct) the fat and protein are too high to use as your hogs staple diet. I have just checked on my Purely (70%) Chicken and it doesn't mention fish of any kind. It may be that they have changed the ingredients slightly and this is now a new ingredient in it. In which case you have bought up a very valid issue. Not sure whether in a mix it would do any harm, not sure I would chance it; but you will need to wait for an answer off a more exoerienced owner.

I was looking at the info online on the pets at home website so maybe it's out of date? I will have to make sure I check the ingredients list on the box before I buy anything.

It could be a change of ingredients as I think my food is around 4 months old as I only use a few biscuits a week

From what i remember they can eat fish but it makes their poo stink
But some people think they are just allergic to fish
So it might not be worth taking the chance

feeding just fish, or fish flavoured food will give hogs bellyache, its too rich for their bellies
